What's Growing in Our Conservatory
(or Not)
This page is devoted to the trials and tribulations of growing
plants in our conservatory. For the record the coservatory faces
ENE and has dappled shade from a large oak tree for most of the
day. In fact it gets less than an hour of direct sun before the
sun goes behinf d the house. This page is set up to exchange
ideas and help us up the learning curve, as the structure was
finished in March 1996. We welcome any help and would be happy to
exchange our experiences with you. Here are some of the plants we
are growing
Asplenium Nidus (Birds Nest Fern)
Heplaplerum Gold Capella got sick and
died, probably insect attack.
- Fuchia Red Spider - now living outside during the summer
- Fuchia Sun Ray - outside for the summer
- Chlorophytum Comosum Vittatum (Spider Plant)- lots of
babies which have meant more plants
- Fatsia Japonica (Castor Oil Plant)- living outside all
year round
- Hibiscus Rosa-Simensis producing red flowers all summer
long
- Plumbago Auriculata -doing very well, about four feet
high in summer and cut right back for over wintering
